The opportunity
Canggu and Seminyak get the headlines. Ubud gets the longer stays — without tens of thousands of villas competing for the same guest.
Ubud draws a different visitor: longer stays, wellness and culture tourism that isn't seasonal beach traffic. That is the guest a villa here is rented to.

The guest profile is the investment case
Ubud receives over 3 million visitors a year, and they come for yoga, meditation, wellness retreats, remote work and cultural tourism. That guest books longer stays and does not choose purely on nightly price — a fundamentally different demand curve from the coast.
This matters more than it sounds. A market driven by short, price-sensitive beach stays forces operators to compete on rate. A market driven by multi-week wellness and remote-work stays competes on quality and setting, which is where a finished, fully furnished villa with a private pool wins.
Who else chose this hillside
Puri Sidem sits on the Ubud ridge beside the Campuhan Ridge Walk, surrounded by Mandapa (a Ritz-Carlton Reserve), Four Seasons Resort Bali at Sayan, Capella Ubud, Amandari and Viceroy Bali.
Those brands run extensive site selection before committing capital. They picked this specific hillside — the same views, the same access, the same guest catchment.
Ubud vs Canggu vs Seminyak, honestly
Canggu is the highest-density villa market on the island: the largest short-stay supply in Bali competing for a young, price-sensitive, short-stay audience. High turnover can mean strong headline occupancy — and the thinnest margins, because guests compare dozens of near-identical villas on price alone.
Seminyak is the most mature resort market. Land and villa prices reflect that maturity: entry cost is high, and a new villa competes against decades of established hotel brands on the same strip.
Ubud is the harder market to enter and the harder one to replicate. Less saturated supply, a guest who stays longer, and a setting that cannot simply be rebuilt somewhere cheaper.
The legal detail that makes renting in Ubud work
Land use in Bali is governed by the RTRW (Rencana Tata Ruang Wilayah). Short-stay rental is only permitted in the pink commercial zone — one of the most valuable designations on the island — and that is where Puri Sidem is built.
This is not a technicality. A villa outside that zone renting short-stay operates in a grey area, with a regulatory risk that never appears in the brochure. Here renting to guests is legal by design.
